January 23, 2012 – Wow!  Long Time – No News!

Time sure flies!  Since August, we enjoyed enormous success at our fall fairs last year.  We performed at the Vancouver Island Exhibition,  Bulkley Valley Exhibition, and the Kamloops Sahali Center Mall  since and my last news update!  From there we brought our show to the Salmon Arm Fair and we finished our amazing Season at the Rock Creek and Boundary Fair.   Most of these fairs were our best ever which explains why 2011 was our biggest year yet!

We are looking forward to a brand new and exciting Next Decade as we enter into our 10th full Season as  Shooting Star Amusements!  Ten years ago we had just 8 rides….we have more than doubled our show size in a decade.  We owe it all to the fair and festival organizers who believe in us, the ones who took a chance on us and more than ever to the customers who come out to support our show, thank you for a great season and we look forward to many more!

Season Wrap Up on the First Day of Fall – September 22, 2010

As our season ends this year  I find myself grateful for so many things.  The weather being the most important factor to success in our business, we were blessed with good weather nearly everyday we were open this year.  While you can plan for almost everything, you can’t do anything about the weather, except of course to have a little faith.

We reflect on all the good things that happened for our Company this season.  We enjoyed our very best year ever, with last year being a pretty hard act to follow, we were delighted to find this season even better.

After 8 years as Shooting Star Amusements, our show now has a great event schedule.  We enjoyed two new events this year, The Vancouver Island Exhibition and The Salmon Arm Fall Fair – all of us thoroughly enjoyed these two communities.

While taking our Bears Twinkle and Sparkle to see the fairs this year, we  had an opportunity to see the many unique things each of the  fairs and festivals offer.  The one universal commonality we saw over and over again was the sense of community and kinship the fairs and festivals inspire.

We truly attribute our success to all of our Sponsors and our loyal and committed staff and partners who stand behind us and believe in what we are trying to do with our Company.

We extend our gratitude to the hundreds, if not thousands of Volunteers who organize and work the fairs and festivals to make them possible for all of us.

Most especially, we thank all of our customers, who have visited our Midway this year!  We hope to see all of you again next year, but until then, may the fall bring you all a great harvest.

September 20, 2010 – Thank You Rock Creek!

This little fair is so popular not even a bit of rain keeps people from going!

We had a tremendous turn out of people at the Rock Creek and Boundary Fall Fair, who didn’t appear to be discouraged one bit by the showers we had on Sunday.

Rock Creek is the greatest place to wrap up our Season for this year.

Thanks to everyone who came to the Fair and many thanks to the Volunteers who make the event possible [read more...]

Thank You Salmon Arm!

A Picture Says a Thousand Words…

Saturday September 11, 2010 – What a day at the Salmon Arm Fair! We enjoyed the best possible weather for a fall fair. You just have to have a little faith….

As the parade participants assembled right in front of the Midway area in the morning, we all had the opportunity to see all the great floats, antique cars and dancing bands practicing before they were off to the streets which were filled with families waiting with anticipation to see what the parade would bring.

There were so many treats given away you needed a loot bag to take gather them up. Before we knew it, the fair grounds filled with excited families racing to get onto the rides.

Thanks to everyone who came out yesterday and enjoyed our Midway – we were delighted to see all of you! Today is our last day at the Salmon Arm Fair – with still so much to see and do, dress for the weather and enjoy the Fair!

Live from the Salmon Arm Fall Fair

September 10th – 2010 – We opened this afternoon for the first time ever at the Salmon Arm Fall Fair. Under sunny skies with cooler temperatures – it really felt like a perfect fall day today. Our Midway was pleasantly populated with excited fair-goers traveling down our all new Games line. Whack! Whack! Whack A Mole into the hole for great prizes! The sounds of bells and whistles ringing out add to the excitement as you journey down to the rides. In the distance the sounds of live music from Memory Lane fills the air. What a great old fashioned country fair!

We took our Bears to see the Fair today! Twinkle and Sparkle enjoyed some of the many unique things the Salmon Arm Fair offers – Memory Lane, Thrashing Exhibits, great entertainment, halls full of wonderful entries of handicrafts, locally grown food and flowers showcasing the many talented people in the area. There is of course those tantalizing fair treats to add to the tradition of the Fair. Tomorrow be sure to watch the parade as it rolls down to the Fairgrounds.

Don’t miss the 113th Salmon Arm Fair. Ride all day passes are offered tomorrow and Sunday for only $30. Ride into the night for just one price!

Just now getting caught up on the Fairs We’ve Played in August!

September 4th already! What a busy summer for us. The kids are going back to school on Tuesday? Where has the summer gone? Now that we have had a week to catch up on things after a very busy month of August this year – we have had a chance to update our Star Gallery with the winners of the Contests we sponsored at the Agricultural Fairs we attended last month – the Vancouver Island Exhibition and the Bulkley Valley Exhibition. [Click here to see the Gallery of Star Artists]

We are off to the Salmon Arm Fair next week. We open on Friday September 10th and play through to Sunday. This is our first time to the Salmon Arm Fair, so if you have never had an opportunity to enjoy our Midway – you can come out for the fun this weekend.

There is still time to submit your contest entries to the Salmon Arm Fair for a chance to win An All Day Ride Pass. Not an artist? You can try your luck on our Facebook fans page too and enter contests to win free rides to use at the Salmon Arm fair!

Don’t miss it! Lots of great entertainment! Buy your wristbands in advance and save $5!

Thank You Smithers & The Bulkley Valley Exhibition

What a Wonderful Fair! With so many pictures to chose from it was hard to pick just one that encompasses what this fair was all about.

As a girl from the city who just last year milked a cow for the first time ever in Smithers…showing one was a whole new experience for me! Seeing this picture of these kids reminds me that a Midway is really a very small part of a fair. These kids trying to get up closer to see all the Novices showing our borrowed cows, their interest and enthusiasm was a real inspiration!

With the “Wonders of the Bulkley Valley” as this year’s Fair theme – there truly was “wonder” in every square inch of this fair. They not only showcased what an agricultural fair is all about but they really showed everyone what the Bulkley Valley is all about….please take the time to read more [click here...]

Sunday August 29th at the Bulkley Valley Exhibition

Last chance for rides today! Today is Lil Dormouse Wristband Day – for the kid in all of us! You can ride all day today for only $22 – from noon til 4:00. Yesterday we enjoyed the biggest, bluest skies ever! Simply perfect fair weather! The backdrop of the mountains in Smithers really is a Wonder for the eye to behold. We attended the most curious tea party at the BVX in Wonderland which was served by the delightful Red Hat Ladies. The tea was held in a perfect little garden at the BVX office, amongst some fantastic scarecrows.

Alex Cuba and the Boys from Appaloosa, Neale Bacon and his Crazy Critters rode our Famous Ferris Wheel yesterday along with our favourite local celebrity Mike Naggel from CJFW! We had a blast with “Mike in the Morning” at the studio live. Mike was right in the wonderland theme wearing a crazy chicken hat while enjoying the fair. I wonder what was up with the hat? Which was heard most of the morning as the fair goers wandered around the fair with burger hats, bunny ears, chickens and more. I wonder what that hat was about? We had Mad Hatterday Saturday at the BVX! What fun seeing everyone on the rides with crazy caps – enjoying the two for one ride special!

Bulkley Valley Exhibition Thursday August 26th

Live from the Bulkley Valley Exhibition – tonight is Mad Hatter Madness til Midnight – Pay one Price and ride like Mad!

Surprize Saturday Mad Hatterday Special – Come to the Fair wearing a Crazy, Silly, Mad or Cowboy Hat and two of you can ride on any ride for the price of one…but only from Noon til Tea Time at 2:00 pm.

July 29th Now Playing – Penticton Peach Festival for two weeks! Opening Tonight!

While I was chatting with some Mother’s recently they told me how they save money when they take their kids to the Carnival. These resourceful Mom’s take advantage of many of the cheaper days and promotions we offer! You can too! Wristband Days are a great value for riding (Tuesdays and Thursdays) in Okanagon Lake Park and Rotary Park next week. If you figure out how much it costs per hour to entertain your kids – the Wristbands are a pretty good deal.

Take advantage of the slower operating hours (this is earlier in the day) to get the most rides in! The waiting time for your favorite rides are vastly reduced earlier in the day – so you can get more rides in if you come early!

Another great way to save money is to participate in the promotions we offer on our Facebook Fans Page! Lots of great ways to WIN FREE rides if you keep watching the fans page. You can enter your photographs of our Carnival and win free prizes too!

Do you want to go to Disneyland? Anyone who participates in our contests on Facebook will be entered to win a Trip for Two to Disneyland in Los Angeles! But you have to be a Shooting Star Amusements Fan… (P.S. We are huge fans of Disneyland). The draw will occur on Halloween 2010.

We also play on site Trivia (random and live) – here too you can win free rides and other great prizes…but you have to do a little homework about our Company (on our Website). You have to know about the events we play (ie: this week will be all about the Peach Festival – Hint: pick up a program) and of course we always ask Trivia questions about the community!

We also offer unadvertised random specials to save you some money! And if you listen to SUN FM and you can win free all day ride passes….

Everyone is getting ready – setting up for one of the most Amazing Events in the North! The Rides are here – the set up in the park begins! Transforming Lebourdais Park into one of the best Free entertainment Venues in the Cariboo. The Volunteers start early here in Quesnel – as they get super busy we want to take this opportunity to thank them now – we KNOW how hard they work to make the event possible for all of us.

Yellow Shirts everywhere – come out and applaud them, shake their hand or maybe you can give them one – they truly ROCK!

Thank you to the City of Surrey for bringing us the Best in the West Canada Day Celebration! (Click to see more…)

Thank You City of Surrey! The City of Surrey Really Knows How to Throw a Party!

With our Gratitude to the real Canadians who came out to Celebrate Canada Day – “Lower Mainland Style“.

While at times it felt more like “Julember” that day instead of July we were still blessed by the masses of people who came out to Celebrate Canada’s 143rd Birthday with us!

Everywhere you looked you saw our true patriot colours — a sea of red and white. Canadian flags held high and blowing in the wind – and happy little cheeks painted up with our Canadian Maple leaf!

Delighted children danced and sang along with Charlotte Diamond. (Who by the way is one of our Celebrity Ferris Wheel Riders). With the best line up of music ever – there were thousands of happy faces riding the rides and dancing through the rain! It was inspiring to see groups of people burst into singing the National Anthem while waiting for their turn to ride the Zipper.Hey Dad - Let's go on that Ride!

In the later afternoon, at long last we finally saw that little piece of blue sky we were counting on all day! The sunshine arrived soon after the Tributes to Abba and Fleetwood Mac! With the welcome rays of the sun poking through the clouds, we knew there would be a rainbow somewhere – this time it was red and white!

Surrey Canada Day’s amazing stage entertainment added an exciting background while the rides spun fast and furious. From the top of the Ferris Wheel you could enjoy the sounds of the Jessie Farrell, Ridley Bent, the Odds, the Stereos, and the fantastic finale with Honeymoon Suite. The Fruiticana Fireworks wrapped up the show with bursts of shooting stars exploding in the sky in perfect rhythm with the music! Click here to get the feeling

What a Day we had! It’s great to be a Canadian, especially at Surrey’s Canada Day celebration.

Come out and Celebrate being a Canadian July 1st!

We showed the world the love we have for our Country at the Olympics this year. Are you missing that Canadian Spirit? We all really know our National Anthem now too – I wonder what it would sound like with 100,000 people singing it at the same time? Who knew we could be so patriotic eh? Let’s celebrate Canada (we can do it – even without the Hockey). How about showing the City of Surrey our love for Canada as they put on the “Best in the West” Canada Day Celebration!

With free non stop entertainment for the whole family all day long – don’t miss it! Join in the fun! Show your spirit! Paint your face for Canada – wear your flags, your Canadian shirts and hats and memorabilia – “Hats On for Canada”

Stop by the Sizzler and sing the national anthem for free prizes.

Fireworks, Fun, Live Entertainment, Kids activities, the Tea Garden, Cotton Candy, Carnival Rides and Games and so much more. Don’t miss the best Canada Day Celebration ever!

Free admission into the Park – THAT’S RIGHT IT’S FREE! So much to see and do!

Mucho Gracias Pt. Grey Fiesta! (Click to read more…)

June 18 – 20, 2010 - What a great stroke of luck we had with the weather over the weekend – not a drop of rain! With the sun shining so bright the view from the top of the Ferris Wheel was remarkable. With a great “Spanish Banks” Theme – the Sombrero’s were on and the festivities began! The parade ran down West 10th Avenue on Saturday lead by “Ole the Bull” who brought the the excitement right through Trimble Park – the atmosphere was festive!

This year’s celebrities were the Dad’s! We celebrated Father’s Day in the Park on Sunday. To honour all the Dad’s we let them ride free on Father’s Day.

There were so many magic moments and happy faces in the park. Be sure to check our our Facebook Fans Page to see them all! Our Utmost gratitude as always to everyone who makes the Pt. Grey Fiesta possible. The tireless volunteers, the merchants of West 10th Avenue, the West Point Grey Community Center, the neighbours of the park, and the Parks Department at the City of Vancouver.

This Father’s Day really reminded all of us of why we do what we do. Looking at the pictures – you can really “Get the Feeling” of the Community Family Fun and Spirit the Pt. Grey Fiesta inspires.

NEWS – From Lumby Days June 12-13 2010!

Click for our Thanks to you Lumby!

Live from Lumby Days – The Zipper! Always a favorite everywhere we go…We saw for the first time the results of our Zipper Ride restoration. The twinkling all new LED lights create magic at night and they draw far less energy while adding an even brighter magical ambiance! The flashing random strobe lights in the “wagon wheels” look like Shooting Stars!

We had our first official contest entries at Lumby Days. The children at the school were called down to the office just before lunchtime to receive their prizes. Merna (Chairperson of Lumby Days) and our Paparazzi Russ and I went to the school to judge the entries – with so many great entries; it was hard to select a winner instead we decided to have more than one first place in the story writing category.

Be sure to stop by the Curling Arena at Lumby Days and see for yourself. The effort the kids put into these works of art was inspirational. We were all entertained by the stories and you will be too – check back to the Star Gallery to see the talent of the kids of Lumby.

The winners and their entries will be posted soon in our Star Gallery. With the sun shining and a beautiful day ahead of us today, join us for the one of the best little Festivals in the Okanagan. Lumby Days has a great small town feel in a Scenic Valley Setting – Old fashioned family fun and incredible small town spirit. See for yourself, enjoy the great free entertainment and reasonably priced Midway Rides.

Special thanks to the staff and Teachers at the school who participated in the Shooting Star Contests – and as always thanks to Merna for doing so much of what you do for Lumby Days and your community. It is a both a pleasure and a treasure to work with you every year.

Have you ever wondered why the Mad Hatter had a 10/6 on the side of his rather crazy big hat? Well from what I understand, in the fairy tale of Alice in Wonderland – it meant his hat was on sale for 10 shillings, and 6 pence. We like to think in Oak Bay’s Willows Park Wonderland – it really means…. “Don’t Be Late – for a very important Date” – June 6, 2010 or 10/6…

Bill, Sandy and ALL the Volunteers, the “Bored of Trade” and/or Directors of the Oak Bay Tea Party – Brian & Roy and the Security Volunteers; the Community, the neighbors, the Parks and Works Department, the Oak Bay Police Department – to all of you – who make the Oak Bay Tea Party possible for everyone…THANK YOU for all you do!

On Mad Hatterday Saturday a few of our crew – had the pleasure of following behind Mayor Chris Causton in our first OBTP Parade – Julie our Queen of Hearts, Spider Lady Kristine; Shaun the Hatter; Dawnelle – our “Glad Hattress”; Katelynn – our “Alice of Willows Wonderland; Trinka our Littlest Star; Lucy who always wears the Hat no matter the occasion; Eric the Gator Driver, Laurel our Friend from The BVX, Ashley Miss Crashly; SSA Paparazzi Russ and all the people at Shooting Star who worked together to make it happen – They all love what we do and are always up to participate in the Fun – even when they need to go that extra parade mile in Alice’s Shoes – All of you never cease to amaze me! Thank You – to all of our crew!
